We all know the famous game of Blackjack AKA 21, but most of us have no idea where the game originated from.

The game of Blackjack was brought up to the United States in the 19th century but the root of the game is still much in debate. Blackjack can be connected to several European card games including the French ‘Vingt-Un’ (21), ‘Trente(30) et Quarente(40)’, and ‘Chemin de Fer’ (Railroad), as well as the Spanish ‘One and Thirty’, Italian ‘Baccara’ and ‘Seven and a half’ which all have a lot of common aspects with the modern Blackjack.

When gambling became legal in Nevada in 1934, Blackjack screamed into famousness and was mostly played with 1 or 2 decks of cards.

Several scientists wrote articles and books about how to reduce the house advantage based on probability and statistics. However, this did not really help for those who were not good in mathematics…

Later on, the same strategies led to a huge increase in Blackjack gamers at the US casinos, alarming the casinos. The system was tough to comprehend and hard to implement and therefore brought up the profits for the casinos as more and more people tried playing Blackjack.

Today, Blackjack is the most famous table card game in the United States. The same game used to be 1 table game that used to be glued in the corner of most casinos. The term Blackjack is derived from the ‘natural hand winner’ of the previous versions of the game when a gamer was dealt the Jack and Ace of Spades in his original 2 card hand. The player was announced as an automatic winner and was paid a reward. Today, in any version of Blackjack, an ace along with a ten point value card-10, jack, queen and king, counts as an automatic Blackjack, except after a split.

Blackjack is now a vastly popular game all around the globe and has only seen a raise in players as the years progress. What once was a game that was not famous and seemingly too hard to handle with ‘Blackjack Strategy’ and ‘counting cards’ happens to be the most popular card game in casinos around the world now.
