Debates have been going on all around the US in many states as to discuss the viability and social acceptability of running any form of gambling ventures in their states. Many of these states have some form of legalized gambling like blackjack games, except for Hawaii and Alaska which have always stayed away from gambling in their jurisdictions.
Lawmakers in Hawaii recently got back on the debate as to seek new opinion on whether online casinos or land based casinos can be acceptable in their states or not. They were trying to figure what amount of funds this business would generate ass revenue for the state coffers. Legalized gambling has been seen as a good source as a revenue generator for many states.
But Hawaiian lawmakers failed to reach a decision to accept gambling in any form, as the campaign against gambling from religious groups, anti-gambling lobby and social organizations intensified. The anti-gambling lobby clearly got an upper hand in the deliberations and swayed the vote in favor of them to stop the proposals to allow gambling in any form.
Hawaii is a well known holiday destination for families and individuals alike. Many had felt that allowing gambling would have a negative impact on the family friendly atmosphere that Hawaii provides for the tourists at large. This would end up against it being a number one holiday destination for families. The law makers did not find any financial alternatives to generate revenue for the state. The potential revenue that would have been generated by casinos in Hawaii has been calculate to be $500 million and the taxation revenue of around $90 million could have been generated. The online casino business would have added not only revenue but also additional jobs to the state. It seems it was not meant to happen at this time though.
