    Blackjack Splits Strategy

    Category: Blackjack Online Game

When basic blackjack strategy tells good blackjack players to split a pair, they do so most times. Most times, means having the bankroll to do it. Sometimes players will come across hands that may cause a dilemma, like whether to sacrifice the edge over the dealer by standing or even hitting as opposed to splitting. Blackjack players with a low bankroll will probably not split due to the money situation.

Split blackjack strategy can be either offensive or defensive. Let me explain… In defensive times you would probably lose anyway, so splitting a pair might help you out of a bad situation. In offensive splits you can possibly change your hand from being a disadvantage to a possible advantage. Those on low bankrolls will probably avoid doing defensive blackjack splits.

Blackjack defensive splits that should be avoided are:
    6-6 vs 2, 3 and 4 (6-6 vs 2: potentially save $0.05 of your bet)
    7-7 vs 2, 3, and 7 (7-7 vs 7: potentially save $0.25 of your bet)
    8-8 vs 8, 9, 10, and A (8-8 vs 10: potentially save $0.05 of your bet)
9-9 vs 9 (potentially save $0.09 of your bet)

Blackjack offensive splits can make you a favorite:
    2-2 vs 4 and 5
    3-3 vs 4, 5, and 6
    6-6 vs 5 and 6
    7-7 vs 4, 5, and 6
    8-8 vs 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 (8-8 vs 6: potentially save $0.48 of your bet)
    A-A vs 9, 10, and A.

Blackjack pros don’t play games with small bankrolls, so not splitting in games is okay by them.
But splitting can change the fortune of those with smaller budgets and keep them longer in the game.
